Need a COV? We’ll Make It Simple

If you’re buying, selling, or reconnecting a property that’s been off power for a while, you may be asked for a Certificate of Verification (COV). It’s a formal check by a qualified electrician to confirm the electrical system is safe and meets current standards.

COVs are commonly requested by:

  • Banks, before mortgage settlement
  • Insurance companies, especially for older homes
  • Buyers or sellers, as part of due diligence
  • Homeowners, when there are ongoing electrical concerns
  • Anyone reconnecting power after six months or more of disconnection

What does a COV involve?

The inspection looks at the condition of visible wiring, fittings, and the main switchboard. It’s not a full rewire or upgrade, just a professional verification that your electrical system is in good, safe working order at the time of inspection.

Depending on the property, we may carry out:

  • A basic visual check of accessible wiring and fittings
  • A visual check with limited testing, if needed
  • Or a full inspection with testing, for more complex setups

What we typically check:

  • Light switches and power points
  • Main earth and earth bonding
  • Cable condition and termination
  • Earthing of metal fixtures
  • Compliance of the main switchboard

After the inspection, we’ll issue a formal Certificate of Verification that can be passed on to your bank, insurer, or solicitor – whoever’s requesting it.
